Hey all!!! Eileen & I just finished our CML Feedback Protocol. We worked collaboratively in the Google Doc for two hours this morning and just video conferenced for a half hour using Google Duo (the Hangouts meet didn’t accept us in). Just add Duo, add each other in contacts and it’s easy. We are done! Both of us are on vacation so we are signing off for now. Thanks everyone!!

Essential Question or How Might We… question (for Señora)) How might we stay in touch during this collaborative time? (for the students) How might we learn and use the Cricut as a group? How could we structure our time so that everyone has a chance to be a part of the making process on the Cricut machine? Everyone will need to create a flag for Spanish class. |

Essential Question or How Might We… How might I learn to use a new tool for creativity in my space, so I can teach others to use, both students and staff? |
Connecting to Standards:During your Feedback Time, see if together you can identify ONE or TWO content standard and ONE or TWO ‘transferable skill or practice standard’ that the project might provide evidence for and enter it in the appropriate cell below
Project 1 - EILEEN VAUGHN
This project has the potential to provide | Evidence of Growth towards the following standards | Evidence of Proficiency towards the following standards |
Content Standards ISTE 1. Empowered Learner | Student effort is observed as they explore Design Space and the multiple graphic tools to design and create a flag to express meaning. | Students take a responsible risk by using Design Space and the Cricut Maker Skills to design and create a flag to express meaning. |
ISTE 3. Knowledge Constructor | Exploring resources and materials, students create an artifact to make a connection to their learning in Spanish Class. | Using a variety of resources and materials, students create an artifact to make meaningful connection to their learning in Spanish Class and share their thinking with the class. |
Transferable Skills or Practice Standards Creative and Practical Problem Solving | Students tinker with the tools to design a flag using color and shape to express meaning. | Students safely and effectively use the various tools and resources to creatively design and make a meaningful flag out of paper, fabric or vinyl. |
Informed and Integrative Thinking | Selection of colors and shapes contribute towards a blending of meanings. | Final product expresses meaning intended and explained by the creator. |
Project 2 ROBIN BRYCE
This project has the potential to provide | Evidence of Growth towards the following standards | Evidence of Proficiency towards the following standards |
Content Standards ELA and Math | ||
CCSS ELA Literacy RL4.3 Describe in depth a setting, drawing on specific details in the text. CC Math Practice MP6 Attend to precision CCMath.Content.4.G.A.2 (Geometry) and Measurement and Data | Identifies a setting in a book they have read. Describes the setting and its sense of place on the experience of the whole book. Learning to use the lettering component on the Cricut and placing the vinyl in the correct position on the mat. | Identifies settings of books that readers love and have a meaningful connection to. Explores the meaning of the setting to the overall experience of the book. Ability to print off the intended models so that the size of the lettering will fit on the repurposed paint sticks and shiplap. |
National Library Standards Collaborate, Curate, Explore & Create Transferable Skills Creative and Practical Problem Solving | Students will curate a list of favorite settings in children’s literature and collaboratively create signposts exploring new tools on the Cricut Machine & with light wood working. Identifying a need for library signage and to re-introduce the kids to the space they’ve missed for a whole year! | Students will curate a list of favorite settings in children’s literature and collaboratively create signposts exploring new tools on the Cricut Machine & with light wood working. Offer one way this project could be extended if you had the necessary resources (time, space, funding, mentoring, staffing)
Project 1 Moonshot idea: If we had many Cricuts, and endless rolls of special papers, vinyl, iron-ons, leather, balsa wood, etc. students could branch out into a local or etsy-type business. There are many products that could be created including greeting cards, signs, T-shirts, jewelry, personalized glassware, dog clothes, personalized logos and other products (cannot think of any more at this time). If there was a community liaison or business expert, they would help the students to collaborate with local restaurants, shops or other businesses in the community and begin to learn how to run a profitable business. A social media person would show us how to optimize our newly created website (one that we created with the help of a web designer). Along the way we took lots of notes and video so that we could write and publish (with our publishing friend) a book on our Cricut adventure - a book for kids. Maybe it will make the Red Clover list - or even win the Caldecott. We have several expert authors and illustrators on board to coach us along. An app could be made so that the Cricut would work with Chromebooks. Our app developer would show us how to do that. The Google empire would love us. Yay! More profits are coming in. Are we an LLC or a non-profit or a ??. No worries - the expert lawyers and accountants have that covered. Maybe with all of those profits, we could travel to a far-away island, clean up the white sandy beaches (our Caring for Beaches Cricut Campaign) and sip Shirley Temple cocktails under the setting sun. We sure would need a rest after a year of Cricuting and Entrepreneuring. Wouldn’t it be fun to create a cricket(insect) robot that could be a TV spokesperson for us? Hmmm - along the way our people would need to talk with the Cricut people. |
